Facilities & Pilot-Scale Testing

Customize & Optimize

Treatability Testing Centre and Laboratories

Our >8,000 sqft treatability testing centre is where we have laboratories, greenhouses, and offices.

These unique facilities are designed for customization, optimization, and integration of a wide range of water treatment technologies. Facilities include:

  • Energy efficient growth chambers for site-specific treatment wetland optimization (such as mGrow and custom CWTS),

  • Walk-in incubators, coolers, and freezers for bioreactor and in situ treatment customization (and associated sludge/residue stability testing).

  • Laboratories designed with capability for microbiology and biogeochemistry assays relevant to the mining and oil and gas sectors.

  • Outdoor areas to hold large shipments of water from sites for testing or serve as a nursery for additional plants as needed.

  • Open areas within the facility are designed for the commissioning of mobile skid mounted mFlex testing units (see below).

Mobile Pilot-scale Testing

Through our decades of experience with semi-passive treatment and pilot-scale testing, we have developed the first-ever mobile pilot-scale units for technologies such as treatment wetlands (CWTS) and gravel bed bioreactors (GBBR, BCR). These skid mounted modular units enable site-specific customization and optimization and can be integrated with other technologies for treatment train validation. For fast implementation, we can commission the systems in our treatability testing centre in Saskatoon (opening Summer 2020). This ability to bring rigorous biological and semi-passive water treatment testing on site through the mFlex mobile pilot-scale testing system is a game changer, bringing the site-specific optimization of these technologies on par with conventions for active treatment.
