Rethinking the Consulting Sector
Value comes from people. Simple. We are only as good as the people on our team, and as good as we enable and empower them to be.
We re-assessed the consulting sector in the context of today’s workforce to place the highest value on our people, so they can provide the highest values to our clients. Here’s some examples:
To us, billable hours are a thing of the past and instead clients and consultants are aligned by value delivery guided milestones and objectives.
Focus placed on quality, value-generation, efficiency, and continual improvement rather than on quantity of hours.
Ongoing peer-review and feedback across all levels (not hierarchy based) associated with deliverables aligned with compensation programs and paired with multiple lines of mentorship.
Full transparency on salaries, bonuses, and compensation through all levels of the company.
Mindfulness of uniqueness and individuality through flexible employee chosen career paths.
Emphasis on ‘alternative adventuring’, empowering people to choose their own paths in the context of ongoing feedback and mentorship. This means that when targets are being met, caps are removed from vacations, bonuses, and educational advancement.
Could this be the solution to increasing engagement and innovation in a sector stagnant for human resource innovation?
Resource industries rely heavily on the consulting sector for expertise, knowledge, and strategic advice. However, the consulting sector is seeing an unprecedented burnout rate, with experts at all levels choosing to leave the grind of ‘billable hours’ for other types of work. Countless hours of training and in-house relationship building are lost every time these employees are lost. Meanwhile, millennial generation employees are loudly voicing their lack of desire to follow in the same path as their predecessors, leaving the sector with a daunting question: “what now?”
We believe to generate ongoing value for our clients, sustainability and team retention is necessary. With the idea that our team culture and project delivery are dependent on the foundations and architecture of the business, we started from square one, re-assessing the consulting business model in order to develop a system that would work for today. The result? A fresh ‘millennial-designed’ business model (yes, our founder / CEO is a millennial!) that has been vetted by other generations (through to Boomers!), bringing the consulting sector into the current era of respect for individuality and application of technological empowerment. Let’s work smarter and have fun doing it.
