Introduction to the "Maven Explains" Educational Series
Thank you for your interest in Maven’s explainer videos about semi-passive water treatment and general water management/treatment for the mining and oil and gas sectors. Given that we are isolated for COVID-19 right now, we are bringing you this by whiteboard from Monique’s living room. Creating video content is new for us at Maven, but we thought it would be a great chance to reach out during this isolation, share information, and get conversations going. We were happily surprised with the response we got from LinkedIn with all the ideas people put forward. After reviewing them, we wanted to let you know what you could expect in the coming weeks.
The videos will be somewhere between 2-10 minutes long and be broken out by topic (so you can watch them all or just the topics you are interested in!). All video will have accompanying documents that are paraphrased and include references where appropriate, more in-depth explanations, as well as pictures and additional information.
One of our core values at Maven is to celebrate uniqueness, so we wanted to provide the video to watch, as well as a paraphrased version you can read to make this information accessible to different learning styles. (Look out for a hands-on short course sometime in the future!)
Some of the first topics we are going to cover:
What is semi-passive water treatment?
Constructed Wetlands, Biochemical Reactors, and In Situ Treatments
What can be treated and how is it treated?
What happens to the treated contaminants?
How do we approach the design of these systems?
How do you choose a carbon or nutrient source?
Understanding the “black box” (the biology and biogeochemistry of the system)
Adaptive management
Cold climate considerations
Source control
Selenium (Monique’s favourite!)
You can expect us to cover a wide range of constituents throughout, from metals and metalloids to naphthenic acids and selenium. Visit our website for more information and sign up for our newsletter to be notified of new content!
